Technological developments

One argument I always have with people when discussing the topic of aliens (I believe they exist, after all it's almost a mathematical certainty) is that other people seem to struggle with the concept that aliens could have far superior technology to us. Obviously as humans we struggle to believe in what we can't see, touch and feel. This extends of course to hypothetical ideas of technology that potential alien civilisations could possess.

When I discuss this topic with people, I like to try and explain the technological advancements in human evolution terms. I like to explain that humans have only been on Earth for a few hundred thousand years. Imagine if an alien civilisation began life just a million years (which is a tiny period of time when considering the age of the Universe) before us. The technological advancements they could have made with an additional million years evolution and learning (bearing in mind humans have only lived for 400,000 years max at the top end estimates) are quite simply mind-boggling, we have no idea what humans will have developed in 100 years let alone 100,000 years, so how can we rule anything out?

What are your thoughts on the Ancient Alien theory and especially around the development of potential alien civilisations?

I feel that life universally exists at many stages and timeframes in the universe. As far as intelligence, we are far more likely to find life that is in early stages of evolution and far below us in intelligence, and a lot less likely to find intelligent life at human level or above. And then the very few species that are superior to humans in many ways, likely being able to space travel. And those are the ones that could have visited Earth somewhere around the short time frame of human existence. Quite likely before the great flood, and probably long before human evolution also.

That is, if we are not alone.
