Alien "language"

Does anybody else ever find themselves really thinking about how alien entities might communicate?

Of course here on Earth we communicate in a variety of ways, but primarily we speak and listen and use sound to communicate. What if an alien species has no concept of sound and are unable to hear? Or alternatively, what if they have no concept of vision, but instead "sense" things?

What if instead of "talking" they communicate telepathically? What would this mean for any potential species wanting to contact humanity... could they train somebody to communicate telepathically, or could they attempt to communicate with us and think we're being rude and ignoring them and get angry?

Things like this give me worries all the time and I love to know if others think about these sorts of things!

I have thought about it a lot. But I have a problem of how people think about that as it is mostly from Hollywood. I do not think for a minute that aliens can; read minds, telepathy, or any other of mind-meld abilities. I think that a decent analogy would be, if you are the alien and you are speaking to your dog. Your dog responds like he understands, but he has no clue on the aspects of language. It is just communication.

But if it is a mean stray dog, he might not be so friendly. The language and communication is more responsive on the moment without words. I don't really know how to say it. But I feel some type of communication is there, we just do not know what is being said. We are the dog.
