Alien Civilizations: Peaceful or Hostile?

Do you think alien civilizations would be peaceful explorers and befriend humanity or aggressive conquerors like we see in many Hollywood movies? If they ever come to us, would they value humanity and interact well, do you think we would be able to co exist with them. Or, do you think there will be war just like the humans had with various races in the past and terminated another race completely?

Fear sells, and movie companies love to sell. I worry that when they do show up in peace, that humans react poorly or violently toward them. Human nature has a dark side.
